It may not be as beautiful as its predecessor, the XK-E, but the XJ-S has come into its own as a collectible thanks to its combination of GT performance and British luxury. Its famous flying buttress B pillars were added when the car was going to be mid-engined, but the production car placed the V12 up front. Sales were slow in the wake of the fuel crisis, but a redesigned engine and a six cylinder option added in the 80s finally made the car a success. The XJ-S became the XJS in 1992, bringing with it more powerful engines and two and four seat convertibles straight from the factory. Production finally ended in 1996, 21 years after its debut.
